Kimberly Bailey Tureaud is a native of Las Vegas Nevada and the daughter of Bob & Anna Bailey. Growing up in Las Vegas Nevada was a wonderful experience for Kimberly and her older brother John Bailey, Esq. Kimberly attended Western High School where she served in a leadership capacity as head song leader and 2nd runner up for homecoming queen. Kimberly’s parents always inspired Kimberly to be the best at what she did, and her entrepreneurial spark was always lit watching her parents successfully operate their family owned business.
After graduating from Western High in 1980, Kimberly went on to Atlanta Georgia where she attended the prestigious all girls’ School of Spelman College. Kimberly majored in Journalism and film and enjoyed assisting Spike Lee with the promotion of one of his first films in her senior year. The Spelman College experience had a tremendous impact on Kimberly’s outlook on her life and how she planned on sharing it with others. Shortly after graduating from Spelman College, Kimberly went back to Las Vegas Nevada and pursued a career in the entertainment business. She examined her options and decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment publicity industry. Upon arriving she attended many industry meetings with groups and organizations to network and developed a clear direction for her plan. Kimberly landed her first job with the King of game shows, Mark Goodson of Goodson & Todman Productions and worked her way up to the promotional department. She joined the local Black Public Relations Society organization and met many influential professionals in the field she wished to work professionally. One African American lady, Pat Tobin, who founded the Black Public Relations Society, took Kimberly under her wing and offered Kimberly a position in her publicity firm, Tobin & Associates.
Kimberly decided to take the job and work closely with her mentor who she admired. She became the top account executive in the firm when she brought client Spike Lee to its doors. Working in the industry also spilled over into the heart of the Los Angeles community where Kimberly coordinated key events and worked alongside groups and organizations. President of the Los Angeles Urban League, John Mack, was admiring Kimberly’s work from afar, and after working with Tobin & Associates for six years, appointed Kimberly as the Los Angeles Urban Leagues Public Information Officer to oversee the new development of the Crenshaw-Baldwin Hills Plaza. It was one of Kimberly’s goals to make sure minority contractors were positively positioned to receive contracts to work on the plaza.
Kimberly exceeded the minority contractors hired by organizing the unions to assist with qualifying the minority sub-contractors.
Once the Urban League’s Public Information’s contract ran out, Kimberly went back to the entertainment publicity and marketing industry and worked with some top agencies in L.A. representing celebrities such as: Paula Abdul, Atlantic Starr, Barry White and The Soul Train Music Awards. After marrying her first husband, Kimberly moved back to Las Vegas to start her family.
Unfortunately, the marriage ended and Kimberly took charge as a single mother and began her own public relations service, Kimberly’s Public Relations. She assisted the failing KCEP 88.1 FM Radio Station in the 1990’s with a fundraising concert at the Thomas & Mack. Kimberly invited her celebrity friends such as: Barry White, Earth Wind & Fire, The Emotions, BeBe & CeCe Winans, James Ingram and many others to assist with the economic assistance for the station. Kimberly also wrote a proposal to the MGM Lindsay Foundation and received the requested funds to move KCEP’s antenna to Black Mountain.
This was the beginning of an offer from The Economic Opportunity Board to assist them with the establishment of then Gov. Miller’s new organization called Nevada Partners. Kimberly successfully assisted in putting the organization in a positive light that encouraged private sector financial support. Thereafter Kimberly was asked to establish a new business program called Micro Business and assist those in the community with the technical assistance they needed to establish their businesses. Kimberly found new professional ground and a new husband.
She served 15 years as Administrator of EOB’s Micro Business Program and marketing coordinator before EOB dissolved. As Kimberly cleared out her files she counted over 932 minority businesses had been formed through the assistance of the Micro Business Program. Kimberly also developed the first ever Individual Accounts Development Program in Las Vegas through a public and private sector partnership with the Venetian Hotel. Kimberly has touched many in the Las Vegas community with her innovative and creative programs and also her voice. She currently serves as the radio host of her 29 year business show (longest talk show on KCEP) format “Enterprising People” on KCEP 88.1 FM every Tuesday from 9 am until 9:30 am.
Renowned business authors such as: Robert Kyosoki, Brian Tracy, Ken Blanchard, Susan Taylor and Michelle Hoskins just to name a few are featured on Kimberly’s radio show. One of the great days for Kimberly was when CNNFN called Kimberly to appear on their Money Smart broadcast to answer the question: “Why are Americans going into Business?”Kimberly and husband, Charles Tureaud, have longed to officially open their own advertising/marketing & events company and recently made their dream a reality.
